How You’ll Make a Difference
KWHB has multiple exciting opportunities for full-time Health Promotion Officers to work in either the Tackling Indigenous Smoking or Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence programs in Katherine, NT.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering culturally appropriate health promotion activities aimed at reducing tobacco use or reducing domestic and family violence among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the delivery of health promotion activities
- Working with stakeholders to deliver community events and quality improvement exercises
- Organising large community events and NAIDOC week activities
- Maintaining effective relationships for disseminating health promotion information
- Collaborating with various coordinators to implement action plans
- Travelling to remote communities to engage priority groups
- Developing and using culturally appropriate promotional resources
- Supporting mass media and social media campaigns
What You’ll Bring to the Team
To be considered for this position, you’ll need prior experience delivering relevant health programs coupled with experience in public health, health promotion, adult education, community development or a related field. Prior experience working in a remote setting is also considered essential. While not essential, a qualification in a relevant field will be held in high regard.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values and a commitment to the advancement of Aboriginal communities. Prior experience working or volunteering in a low-level health literacy environment or developing country would be considered an asset
Additional requirements include:
- Current driver’s licence
- Current NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), or ability to obtain
- Current Criminal History Check, or ability to obtain
- Current COVID-19 immunisation certificate (3 doses required)
- Must be willing to travel (approximately 50%)
- Advanced computer skills
