Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) Community Engagement Officer.
This is a full-time non -continuing position until 30 June 2026.The position will be well suited to someone who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.
The role will have a strong emphasis on supporting the development and delivery of FDSV health promotion messages and will focus on community engagement and education, ensuring that all program activities are culturally tailored and appropriate for remote communities.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Support the Big Rivers Supporting Recovery from FDSV program with community engagement that is culturally appropriate and consistent with the program strategy.
- Build relationships with local communities in the Big Rivers region and to encourage public participation and awareness of the program.
- Work closely with key stakeholders and maintain effective relationships that enable health promotion information to be disseminated effectively.
- Support and attend large community events in the Big Rivers region e.g. NAIDOC, community festivals and celebrations, school and community-based activities, and promote the programs messaging at such events.
- Undertake regular travel to remote communities in the Big Rivers region to implement and support the program.
