Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Project Officer- Youth DFSV Early Intervention.This position will be well suited to someone with a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Outdoor Education, Human Services, Community Development, or related field. With an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.
Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.
About the Opportunity
Katherine West Health Board has a been funded for a proactive program supporting early intervention for 11-17 year old males at risk of Domestic Family & Sexual Violence (DFSV). Walking a New Path Together Project Officer will support the project coordinator to engage community members for a co-design approach for the program. The role will include the implementation and delivery, as well as evaluation of the program.
This position is for a Male Project Officer, who will work primarily with male community members and young men from the Katherine West region.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Provide culturally safe and therapeutic social care to male Aboriginal young people in remote communities.
- Engage with community members, Aboriginal staff and local stakeholders to help develop a culturally appropriate program that addresses the drivers of violence, prioritising the safety of victim-survivors.
- Support yarning and healing activities, alongside the Walking a New Path Together Project Coordinator, community members, Aboriginal staff and mental health/social and emotional wellbeing staff.
- Advocate for improved services and outcomes for clients.
