Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Health Promotion Officer (HPO) This position will be well suited to someone who has an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities and understanding of the social determinants of health affecting Aboriginal people living in remote communities.

Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia. 

Position Description

About the Opportunity

Katherine West Health Board is looking for a dedicated Health Promotion Officer (HPO) to help deliver culturally respectful and engaging sexual and general health education across Aboriginal communities in the remote Katherine West region.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Provide support to all primary health care programs with health promotion material development and delivery that is consistent with KWHB health promotion strategy.
  • Work with program coordinators and extended Primary Health Care team within KWHB to implement health promotion activities as outlined in the health promotion plan.
  • Assist in evaluating health promotion materials and events in line with KWHB health promotion policy.
  • Participate in health promotion audits as per KWHB audit schedule, ensuring that appropriate resources are approved and available for use.
  • Ensure resources are available on all KWHB iPads for client education during consultations and community events.
