Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Cancer Support Coordinator.This position is well suited to someone with eligible registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a general registered nurse and possess a current practicing certificate, with an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities. 

Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

Position Description

About the Opportunity

The Cancer Support Coordinator plays a key role in improving access to cancer screening, strengthening connections between community and health services, and supporting clients and families across the cancer continuum from screening and diagnosis through to treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Coordinate the implementation of the KWHB Cancer Program, ensuring alignment with NACCHO funding requirements, community priorities, and the Cancer Australia Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.
  • Lead cancer screening strategies across the region, including promotion of national programs (bowel, cervical, breast, lung), supporting uptake, and identifying and addressing local barriers to participation.

  • Coordinate workforce and stakeholder training, including staff development around the cancer journey, the National Cancer Screening Register, and culturally safe cancer communication strategies.
