Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Human Resources Officer. This position is well suited to someone with intermediate to advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, ability to travel to remote areas for periods of time by road and light aircraft, and who has an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities. 

Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

Position Description

The Human Resources Officer role is responsible for all administrative requirements to support the Human Resources (HR) team including commencement of new staff’s orientation and induction to KWHB, organising staff travel, and offboarding staff. This role has a strong focus on liaising with the Recruitment and Training Coordinator, Remote Area Educator/Mentor, KWHB staff, and KWHB Management.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:  

  • Provide support for core HR functions to staff and Management relating to recruitment, administration, and employee support services. 
  • Administration of the onboarding and offboarding functions, maintaining personnel files and databases, and ensuring that records and other documentation are filed in a timely manner, including archiving personnel files, and terminated staff both through the electronic systems and any paper files.
  • Organise appropriate induction programs for new and culturally diverse staff in conjunction with relevant professionals and external agencies and assist with induction paperwork for new employees.
  • Assist with training, supervision, and mentoring of new staff and other KWHB employees when directed by Management, both in a town setting as well as at the local community level if required.
  • Ensuring all licenses, certifications and registrations are current, and assisting with the renewal process as required.
