Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Aboriginal Health Coaching Facilitator. This position is well suited to someone who has relevant experience in mentoring students, with an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities. 

Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

About the Opportunity 

Working under the guidance of the Manager Aboriginal Workforce Development Projects and in close partnership with the Health Centre Manager (HCM), the Aboriginal Health Coaching Facilitator (AHCF) provides support, education, training, and coordinates professional development for Aboriginal Health Coaches to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence to maximise their performance in a multidisciplinary remote primary health care workplace. This is an important role in facilitating positive relationships between clinic-based staff, travelling program staff, external providers, and the Aboriginal Health Coaches. Whilst the role is based in our remote clinics, clinical skills are not necessary for the position.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Identify, plan and facilitate the learning and needs of Aboriginal Health Coaches (including trainees) in remote locations. This includes facilitating clinic inservices and the provision of support on site during placement periods and throughout the post-graduate program.
  • Facilitate engagement between the Aboriginal Health Coaches (including trainees) and other organisational staff (both internal and external) to build strong relationships within the primary health care setting.
  • Professionally support all students as appropriate. Provide mentoring as required on an individual basis for Aboriginal Health Coaches (including trainees) based on their needs.
  • Create, maintain and update clinical and health promotion resources on the KWHB intranet in collaboration with Aboriginal Health Coaches.
  • Help foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary practices and team oriented processes.
