Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Cancer Support Coordinator. This position is well suited to someone with a minimum 3 years’ experience in health program coordination or project management, ideally within an Aboriginal community-controlled health service or remote context. With an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.

Position Description

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinate the implementation of the KWHB Cancer Program, ensuring alignment with NACCHO funding requirements, community priorities, and the Cancer Australia Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.
  • Lead cancer screening strategies across the region, including promotion of national programs (bowel, cervical, breast, lung), supporting uptake, and identifying and addressing local barriers to participation.
  • Support Cancer Support AHP/Nurse position ensuring high-quality client support, culturally appropriate education delivery, and strong team coordination.

The Cancer Program Coordinator leads the delivery and coordination of cancer-related initiatives across the Katherine West Health Board region. This role supports a team of Cancer Support Officers, Health Promotion Officers, and clinical staff to deliver culturally safe cancer awareness, education, screening promotion, and client support.
