The role

As a Remote Area Nurse at the Lajamanu Urgent Care Centre, you'll deliver high-quality, after-hours nursing care to a predominantly Aboriginal community, working alongside a Health Operations Support Officer (and a second clinician when required).

This is a rostered FIFO position (capital city → Darwin → Lajamanu) on a 14-night on / 14-night off cycle, with flights and accommodation provided while on rotation. Each rotation includes 7 active and 7 passive nightshifts (2200–0700), covering:

• Comprehensive, person-centred urgent care and triage.
• Phone-based clinical advice and support to community members overnight.
• Assessment and management of after-hours clinical presentations.
• Responding to emergency callouts per KWHB policy.
• Restocking and preparing the clinic for day-shift handover.
• Administrative tasks including recall and biographic data cleanup.
• Accurate documentation of all after-hours activity.

You'll also mentor students and Allied Health Professionals, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and work within a genuinely multidisciplinary team.

Our ideal candidate

As a minimum, you're an experienced RN who thrives with autonomy, stays calm under pressure, and genuinely wants to work alongside Aboriginal communities in a remote setting. You'll bring:

• 3–5+ years post-graduate experience with advanced clinical skills relevant to remote area nursing
• Strong triage, emergency response and escalation skills
• Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking and communication abilities
• Confidence working autonomously and as part of a small team
• Willingness to work a 14-night on/14-night off roster, including 10-hour shifts
• Experience providing phone-based health advice and managing after-hours presentations
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, ideally in a remote setting
• Comfort with health IT systems and clinical documentation
• Current AHPRA registration as a general Registered Nurse (full authority to practice)
