The role

As our Cancer Support Aboriginal Health Practitioner, you'll walk alongside Aboriginal clients and their families across the full cancer continuum — from screening and diagnosis through to treatment and survivorship. Based in Katherine with regular travel to remote communities, you'll provide culturally safe clinical care, education, health promotion and care coordination that helps close the gap in cancer outcomes for Aboriginal people living remotely.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Promoting and supporting participation in national cancer screening programs (bowel, cervical, breast, lung and others).
• Running community health promotion activities such as yarning circles, forums and awareness campaigns.
• Documenting cancer care plans and follow-ups in Communicare, and helping improve cancer tracking systems.
• Providing culturally safe education on cancer types, treatment options and self-care.
• Offering practical and emotional support through the cancer journey — appointment reminders, transport coordination, and connection to support services.
• Attending key medical appointments with clients and advocating on their behalf.
• Liaising with oncology teams, specialists and remote health centre staff.
• Coordinating referrals to allied health, mental health, palliative care and community supports.
• Contributing to continuous quality improvement and staff education on the cancer journey.

Our ideal candidate

You're a compassionate, experienced health professional who wants to make a genuine, lasting difference in the lives of Aboriginal people affected by cancer. You'll bring:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in remote Aboriginal health, ideally in cancer care or chronic disease.
• A solid understanding of the cancer care continuum — screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
• Skills in delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed care to Aboriginal clients and families.
• Strong communication, advocacy and care coordination skills.
• Demonstrated experience in health education or promotion with Aboriginal people in remote communities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with current AHPRA registration.
