Summary of Position
Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Tackling Indigenous Smoking Health Promotion Officer. This position is well suited to someone who has an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.
The Health Promotion Officer plays a central role in the design, delivery and evaluation of activities that prevent smoking uptake, supports quitting and promotes smoke-free environments. This position is responsible for developing innovative and engaging health promotion resources and activities that are culturally appropriate, evidence-informed and community driven. Delivery will occur through schools, community events, social marketing campaigns and other locally tailored engagement strategies.
The role works closely with the broader Health Promotion team, community members and partner organisations, to ensure health promotion activities reflect local language, culture and values. In addition, the officer will support monitoring and evaluation processes to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate the program’s impact.
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Assist with the planning and implementation of community events in the Big Rivers region e.g. community festivals, school and community-based activities, World No Tobacco Day and NAIDOC week activities.
- Work alongside the regional partners to deliver culturally tailored and appropriate health promotion education and community engagement that aligns with the program deliverables.
- Development and distribution of health promotion resources including lesson plans, animations, print materials, videos and social media content, in collaboration with community members and the Cultural and Health Literacy Resource Review group.
- Support the creation of social marketing campaigns that promote smoke-free community champions, ensuring messages reflect local language, culture and community values.
- Promote continuous quality improvement (CQI) by ensuring all activities are evidence-based, culturally safe, community-informed, and regularly reviewed through CQI processes.
